The Deadline has Arrived!!

July 31st has come and passed, many big moves have been made over the couple weeks I put in between posts. I am going to give a small touch up on what has been happening in MLB and I will provide everyone will a full update through a podcast in a few days. So who has made the big pick ups and who has not.

The two teams many people are pointing at are the L.A. teams, Dodgers and Angels. Dodgers made a few deals to land them more offense with Shane Victorino and Hanley Ramirez stepping in and one of which already being a difference maker in the a win against the Giants. They also got reliever Brandon League, those new names on the field, with the addition of a healthy Kemp and Either makes the Dodgers a dangerous team in the NL West. The Angels made the biggest deal in my opinion though, as they picked up starting pitcher Zack Greinke, who though took a loss in his first appearance will be a big piece to what comes of the Angels season.
Many other transactions were made, as teams made additions that were necessary to keep them in the picture. The Cincinnati Reds have been heating it up, but there one weak spot has seemed to have been the bullpen. The Reds did their best to solve that with the pick up of Closing Pitcher Johnathan Broxton. The Cardinals made a similar move as they went in for bullpen help making a deal for reliever Mujica. The other division rival, the Pirates have made a few moves. First off with Starting Pitcher Wandy Rodriguez followed by the pick ups of Gaby Sanchez, Travis Snider, and Chad Qualls. These additions will go well with McCutchen and the Pirates run for the Playoffs.

In the American League a few moves were made, the Yankees got Casey McGhee from Pittsburgh to deal with their current Texiera issue. Boston picked up Breslow to add to the pitching staff that no doubt has been struggling. The Rangers made some big moves, word was they were looking for Cliff Lee, but they ended up with Ryan Dempster and Geovanny Soto who will help the team battle with the Angels all season.

The Braves were another big name with their pickups of Maholm and Reed Johnson to help their pitching and offense which is needed with the now injured Tommy Hanson. The Giants picked up Marco Scutaro and Hunter Pence as their pitching has been strong all year while the offense has been lacking. Looks to be turning into a big Dodgers Giants fight for the west. Well hold up now, the D-Backs have been on fire recently and they got Chris Johnson in their infield now so don't forget about them just yet. The D-Backs have been climbing back into the story, even though they let go of a couple of their normal starting players it seems possible they make the same kind of late comeback as last year. Looking over into the AL Central war which has recently been favoring the Tigers, the White Sox made a move and got Francisco Lariano to strengthen their rotation. Another battle to the finish looks to be set up and I can not wait to see these fights into September. A few other moves were made, but we will cover those later.

The Astros, Marlins, and Cubs were the biggest sellers as they dealt away players such as Carlos Lee, Hanley Ramirez, and even Ryan Dempster. The biggest selling team at the deadline however was the Phillies giving away big name outfielders. The Phillies got Nate Schierholtz from the Giants, other than that just stuff to help in the future. Houston and Chicago each gave away multiple players as they plan to beef up their minor leagues and save up some money. Now the Marlins really got me confused, I picked them to be the team of the NL East, but that is not the case. The Marlins made an early move taking Carlos Lee from Houston, but since they have only been giving away their players and future. So much for the fans cheering on the team in that new stadium.
