Angels Stocking Up On Outfielders

The day after picking up Shane Victorino, the Angels went back at it acquiring lefties David Murphy from Cleveland and David DeJesus from Tampa Bay. The Angels only surrender 2 low level minor leaguers in the deals. The three new Angel outfielders will be splitting the leftfield role in the absence of Matt Joyce who is out with a concussion after colliding with teammate Eric Aybar and Collin Cowgill who has been out for a couple months due to his wrist. Joyce has had an off year however, batting .178 with only 21 RBIs. Daivd Murphy looks to be a good fill in, as he is hitting .296 on the season. Realistically, all these players are actually filling in for Josh Hamilton after the Angels got rid of him with no real plan of who to follow him up with. The Angles are tied with the Astros atop the AL West after tonights loss.
Speaking of the AL West, the A's continued their selling and Royals continue buying, as Ben Zobrist is now on his way to Kansas City. Zobrist had been among talk for a good while, mostly about going to the New York Mets however. This trade shows that the Royals are all in after picking up their ace in Cueto yesterday and now the man to fill in for Alex Gordon out in left. I honestly thought the Royals gave away a bit to much of their future in this trade, as they gave up pitching prospects Aaron Brooks and Sean Manaea who have both proven to have a bright up bringing. The Royals also got 2 million from the A's in the deal. The Royals are looking down among the rest of the AL and with these additions have set themselves up nicely to continue doing so.
The Washington Nationals made a deal today picking up All-Star Johnathan Papelbon from the Phillies for minor pitcher Nick Pivetta. Papelbon waived his no-trade clause after he was given reassurance that he would take Drew Storen's job and become the Nationals closer. Papelbon is the saves leader in both the Phillies and Red Sox franchises and now has a good chance to do the same in Washington. He goes from last to first place in his division and must be excited for a chance to take a run in the playoffs.
In other news, Mookie Betts is looking to be out with concussion issues after making a great grab and tumbling over the wall before losing the ball in what was after review called a homerun for Jose Abreu. The Red Sox have had no luck, as they look at another big name player hitting the DL. While the Yankees had a crazy day, surrendering five runs in the first inning only to comeback with 21 in their victory over the Rangers. Mike Trout looks to be ok after MRI tests on his wrist came out to be negative, while Mejia has been busted again for PEDs and is looking at a 162 game ban this time...good thing the Mets just picked up Clippard. Shields, Samardzjia, Price, Ross, and plenty of good pitchers still among talk, look for the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Cubs, Giants, Yankees, and others to get busy buying.
