Off season under way, Outfield situation
The rumors are out and about as some big names are in the free agent market. Some players like David Ortiz already have resigned with their teams, but others like Dan Haren and Josh Hamilton are out there still. Talk has been that Hamilton will be leaving the Rangers and go to a team that has been in the hunt over the past few years. The number one expected team is the Tigers, I could see Hamilton going to Detroit and fill in for the Delmon Young spot in the outfield as it seems the Tigers are not resigning Young. Another team is the Giants. Hamilton could be joining the Giants making their outfield a very strong one. The Giants already need to resign Pagan so Hamilton may be a stretch. But their is word that the Reds may make the big offer for Angel Pagan with their issue of having no one on base in front of their power bats. Pagan going to the Reds and Hamilton going to the Giants would be beneficial for both teams though. The Reds will get more RBI's from their big bats and Posey and Sandoval would have another big weapon to join them in the lineup. Michael Bourn, B.J. Upton, and Nick Swisher are other big outfield names that are out there. My bet is that Bourn will sign with the Braves again, while Upton joins a team looking for another bat that already has the arms, possibly the Nationals, Reds, or maybe the Yankees. Swisher is more of a tough call. If the Yankees are not interested, that will lower the interest in a lot of other teams as they will think Swisher has given it all he is got. Swisher would be a good guy to bring in a veteran impact and provide some good advice for the young bats in the lineup. So the Mariners, Twins, Padres, or Indians may be a good team for Swisher. Expect the Indians to be making a lot of deals in this off season however, as they will be looking to rebuild for a brighter future.
