As we get deeper in spring training, only more bad news come to the New York Yankees. With AROD down for a good while, Granderson joined him with his fractured arm, and now Mark Texiera has hit the DL for 10 weeks with a wrist strain. Even their GM snapped his ankle sky diving. Nothing but injuries are coming the Yankees way. With Jeter coming off an injury, the Yankees currently look a bit week on offense with Cano the only bat in the lineup that produced a good amount of power last season that is active. Now what are the Yankees going to do about this? Will they make a move to pick up another bat, people like Rolen are out there. Or will they just try and deal with the first month or two of the season with the team they got now? Their closer Rivera announced that this will be his final year today, putting even a little more pressure on the Yankees who are looking to Hafner and Cano to support the team in the beginning of the season. They need to hope nothing happens to those guys during the World Baseball Classic. Take a look at the team the Yankees had last year to the team are have right now. No Nick Swisher, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Texiera, Curtis Granderson, Andruw Jones, and Eric Chavez. This current team looks a lot different and is missing some key pieces. But the Yankees will always be a contender, with Toronto looking tough and you never know what Tampa Bay and Baltimore may do, plus don't forget about their main enemy and the new team the Red Sox have put together, this will be an interesting year in the AL East.
In other injury news, the Cardinals shortstop Furcal is in need of Tommy John Surgery. This is a loss of a early in the lineup bat that the Cardinals need to get on in front of Holliday and Beltran. The Cardinals do not look to make any kind of moves however, as they are putting their faith in for Pete Kozma who had some time with the team last year putting up good numbers. In good news, the Rangers picked up Dereck Lowe and added some good veteran experience to their pitching staff with their many young guys out there.
Many people are worried about their players who got injured last year coming into this season. But things seem to be going well for a good amount of them. Carl Crawford says he is still on schedule to meet his goal of being ready for opening day with the Dodgers. Same story for Jeter and the Yankees and David Ortiz and the Sox, but other players are now running into their previous issues and may need some time. Pujols knee is kicking in again as he looks to avoid a third consecutive slow start, hopefully for the Angels the knee problems do not continue. Aramis Ramirez is also facing knee issues and is expected to miss the next couple weeks and possibly opening day. Allen Craig has got shoulder pain that slowed him down last year, the Cardinals need his bat to be strong this year, but the shoulder is something that could really slow him down. His teammate David Freese also dinged up his lower back chasing a foul ball on Monday. Hopefully these guys can recover and be there on opening day or the Cardinals.
Colby Rasmus has been given extra time to heal with his shoulder problems but his teammate Lawrie now has rib issues and is expected to miss a few weeks and possibly the entire World Baseball Classic. The Blue Jays want their team ready and fully healthy on opening day, especially with the Yankees chilling on the DL. Victor Martinez is back and his knee appears to be fine, but he is running into back problems now as the Tigers have been waiting long enough for this hitter to rejoin their lineup. Aaron Hill had got quad problems and the Diamondbacks look to give him a little time and hope that he heals by opening day. Delmon Young has been cleared to start some drills, but is still being limited with his ankle injury. The Phillies are happy with this news however as Young is getting ready faster than they were expecting.
