Spring training under way, injuries already making teams pay

With just a few games into spring training, some teams have been enjoying what they have been seeing from their players and prospects, while others are not liking the start at all. The small story, Marlins big hitter, and realistically only hitter left, Stanton took a pitch to the head. There was a lot of worry right off the bat, but things look to be ok with Stanton and he should be fine to play.
The big story is with the Yankees and Curtis Granderson. The first pitch to Granderson beaned him in the forearm fracturing it. He is expected to miss 10 weeks. So what are the Yankees going to do about their missing homerun hitter with AROD already out? Well there was chat of a trade with the Cubs for Soriano, then possibly a deal with the Angels to trade for Wells. But it seems Johnny Damon is willing rejoin his old team for minimum pay. Damon was cut by Indians last August after having a .222 batting average. Damon played four years with the Yankees including the World Series win in '09. Damon claims that he has looked to rejoin the Yankees over the last few years but they have not shown any interest in him. They had the opportunity of picking him up in the recent years, but went with Ibanez instead to take the DH position. He said he is willing to join the team only for the time that Granderson is out and then he can be sent off.  After chatting with ESPN radio the Yankees heard of Damon offer, but apparently still have no interest in the 39 year old outfielder.
The Yankees will now place Brett Gardner in center and will have Ichiro in right. When it comes to the open spot in left they are planning on ignoring Damon's offer and going with one of their back ups, most likely Matt Diaz or Juan Rivera with all of their prospects not being ready. Since the confrontation between Damon's agent and the Yankees after the '09 season, the Yankees seem to have put the idea of Damon wearing pin stripes again aside. With Swisher now with Cleveland the Yankees are a bit short handed now that they are relying on two bats that have not produced good numbers in the recent seasons. My bet is that they will turn to Damon near the beginning of the season, if not making one of those trades especially with Toronto now being a built up team.
