The pain only continues until the season starts

More teams are running into issues when it comes to injury and other forms of pain that may be benching some of their stars. First there is the pitch that just got a huge deal from the Dodgers, Greinke has elbow inflammation on his throwing arm. There appears to be no damage to the structure of the joint, but a lot of worry is spreading for the $147 million deal that was made in December. Greinke will most likely sit out and rest for a few days and slowly get back into the picture. Dodgers have Kershaw to lead off the team against the Giants in April, but they hope their new star can be there to take on their rival to start off the season as well.
Next David Ortiz is now doubtful to be ready for opening day. The dinged up Red Sox story may not be over as they suffered many injuries last year, throwing them out of the run for the playoffs. The 37 year old slugger has inflammation in his heel due to his achilles injury. Ortiz and the Red Sox had the goal of getting their big swinging DH back in the lineup by opening day, but with recent MRI results, that does not appear to be the case. Ortiz will be missed by his mix of teammates as the Red Sox are in for a tough season with the Blue Jays beefed up on both sides, the Orioles being a rising team, and the Yankees, well just being the Yankees. The Rays are never an easy push over either, the division is going to be a battle and not one of these teams has the time to slump around for a while as that will cost them the division.
The Phillies did not impress many in the offseason with the players they acquired out of a big selection. Coming off a big injury year where the two key bats were lost to and the others were dished away to other teams, the Phillies are looking to rebound and put up a fight against the Nationals and Braves in the NL East. But things are already heading south as it is the arms this time that are showing bad signs. Roy Halladay had shoulder problems last season, and after a outing against Detroit were he aloud 6 hits and 4 walks in only 2 and 2/3 innings the coaching staff is worried that his shoulder issues are back. Halladay claims to be perfectly fine, but after 3 great outings it strange he would get raked so easily. Coaching staff may view it as just a delivery problem in Halladay's mechanics, but we will see how long Halladay can hold out with this story of being perfectly fine throughout the season.
Finally the Orioles have run into a problem when it comes to one of their key outfielders. Nick Markakis has been having neck issues since March 3rd and they finally have diagnosed him with a herniated disk in his neck that will sideline him at least another week. Markakis has not played at all over the last week, which is actually good for Baltimore, as the combined time off the field will equal a quicker return to the game. Markakis should be fine by the time of opening day. He is a big part of the teams lineup that is relying on young pitching this season if they want to compete with the beat up Yankees, veteran Jays, new team Sox, and as I call them the random Rays.
