The Cubs signed Anthony Rizzo to a seven year $41 million contract that has got him locked up with Chicago for a while. Rizzo is a big part of Cubs future as they look at another season of rebuilding. This is the first kind of contract the Cubs have been able to offer since the deal with Soriano. Lets hope this one doesn't blow up in their face as well. I think it is a good signing for the Cubs, as Rizzo is still young and will only get better over that time period. Its not like the Pujols and Hamilton deals that the Angels killed themself with, as both those players reached their prime and are only on the decline.

In injury news, Braves took a hit with Venters going down for his second Tommy John surgery. The Rays have lost Price for 3-4 starts with his triceps causing some issues. Red Sox lose their new closer...yet again as Hanrahan is in need of Tommy John surgery. Nationals had to put Ramos on the DL with hamstring problems. None of these injuries should prevent these teams from succeeding as they all have good backups.

Yankees have taken people by surprise. Though they are badly injured they still have the lead in the AL East. Currently a 1 game lead over Boston has the old rivalry back in action. Look for this division to be a tough battle all season. The Blue Jays may be out by 8 games, but I still think they are in the mix for a playoff spot. When it comes to winning the division, expect to see the Yankees, Red Sox, and Orioles fight it out in September. Jones and Machado offense will keep things interesting all year. The Indians have a tie going with the Tigers in the AL Central, their bats have been amazing especially with Reynolds. He is not striking out as much, but is still providing great power. The Tigers have been slacking, as Verlander lost today against the Rangers. I predict the Tigers will end their struggles and end up coming away with this division, but don't count out the Indians and Royals for a wildcard seat quiet yet. The Rangers are leaving everyone behind in the AL West. Another disappointing year for the Angels, and the A's are all beat up with many injuries affecting their offense. Then the Astros and Mariners, well are the Astros and Mariners so you can't expect to much from them. This looks like it is going to be the Rangers all the way, but I predict that once healthy, the A's will make this division very interesting again.

The Braves and Nationals have the fight everyone was expecting going on in the NL East. Atlanta currently has a half game lead, but this fight will go all season. Which ever team does not win the division, will take home a wildcard seat. Braves got the more offensive punch with with the Uptons, Freeman, and McCann hitting well, while Zimmerman and Strasburgh are dominating on the mound for the Nats. The Cardinals have the best record n the NL and only see the Reds and Pirates as a current threat in the NL Central. The Cardinals pitching and batting have been unbelievable and if they keep this up, they should have problem taking home the central. The NL West is currently lead by the comeback team, the Giants. San Francisco was down by 6 runs to the Rockies earlier today but ended up coming away with the 8-6 win. Arizona is 1 game behind with Goldschmidt put up MVP numbers so far on the season. I predict that the Giants will end up staying right where they are as they are not playing their best baseball and are still on top. Look for Arizona to put up a good fight though, and we will see if the Dodgers can end up doing anything with their high paid team as they currently sit 6 games back.
