Garza first to go
Though I said Matt Garza would be signing with the Angels or Blue Jays in the podcast, he decided to go back to the NL Central and join the last years bottom of the barrel Milwaukee Brewers. Maybe Garza just likes to play for teams that don't have a chance to make the playoffs. I mean he did sign with the Cubs in his last contract. Garza signed a 4 year, $50 million deal with a possible fifth year involved. The Brewers were looking to establish a top of the rotation starter in their rotation. By adding Garza, they have added more depth to their rotation, as it will be Gallardo and Lohse dueling it out with Garza for the lead off stop on opening day. Garza is 30 years old and is coming a good, 10-6 season with a 3.82 ERA. If the Brewers are looking for a better season, they should look to improve the offense as well, as Miller Park is a place where any pitcher can easily surrender a homerun with one small location mistake. With Braun returning, you can expect to see some better offensive production, but with Hart and Aoki gone hopefully Smith can help, cause there is not much else to help provide runs.
Ryan Braun has been hoping he can move forward with his career coming into the 2014 season. He has been very apologetic to the fans and league, but he wants to put it all behind him and look to get back to hitting homeruns and help the Brewers win games. After his 65 game suspension we will see how fans embrace in Milwaukee and other ball parks from around the country. I would not expect anything positive from anyone and there will be a lot of booing, especially in St. Louis, Chicago, and Cincinnati.
