Michael Young Retires
Well back to back days, a couple Texas boys declare its time to retire and move on from the game. Michael Young retires after 14 seasons at the same age as Berkman, 37. Yong spent the majority of his career with the Texas Rangers, playing at short stop, second base, third base, first base, and even DH over his 13 years in Texas. Unhappy with being pushed to the DH spot, the Rangers dealt Young to the Phillies in the offseason, who sent him to the Dodgers the very next season. Young will always be remembered as a Ranger as he played with them from the age of 23-35. Young got three good offers for the 2014 season, including one from the Dodgers as they looked to bring the infield veteran back in their lineup. Young hit a total of 185 homeruns, had 1030 RBI's, and hit a perfect .300 throughout his career. He was a seven time All-Star, as he was known for getting walks and getting on base with a .346 OBP over his 14 season career. He was good at taking bases as well, as he went 90 for 120 in his carrer. Though that it is not a big amount, 75% is a good percentage and they look at quality over quantity since Moneyball. He had an impressive 2008 stealing 10 bags on 10 tries. Young did not have as good of numbers over his last two seasons and decided it was time to spend more time with his family. Best wishes to Young in his post-baseball life.
