Here we go again

The big story going around baseball today is of course what going with the illegal substances and how those who got busted are being affected.  Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera, Nelson Cruz, and Gio Gonzales all got caught with PED's in the system. I was very shocked to hear Gio in that mix, he had a great season on the mound in his new Nats uniform, but still wasn't the best. I always saw him as a respectable player, but hey he is originally from the A's and that usually seems to be the story when they go to a new team. I mean look back, Canseco, Giambi, McGwire, the list goes on.  Melky got busted last year and it cost him a chance to play with his team as they took home the World Series. Now that he is with the Jays, he shouldn't be expecting any special offers if he is still up to it especially with that big new team they got. Nelson Cruz has been a bi power hitting weapon for the Rangers, right there behind Hamilton. Now that Josh bounced to California to play for the rival Angels, along with their other powerful bat Napoli leaving for Boston, this is not the start the Rangers were looking for when it came to him being the leading HR bat with Beltre.  The big one however is AROD. He was busted back in the '00-'03 seasons. Now they catch him again right as he announces he may be out for the entire season due to surgery. The Yankees recently picked up Youkilis, so wouldn't mind losing him for a bit, but with another complication falling into place the Yankees have been making efforts to completely void his contract and get out of paying him so much to sit and watch the rest of team play.  The chances of this happening are very very slim. The Yankees may be starting to learn that those long 10 year contracts don't always pay off.  We will see if the Angels learn that any time in the near future.
When it comes to signings, Prado and the DBacks agreed to four years and $40 million. Prado is a good glove and a high average hitter.  A big issue for Arizona was their inconsistency when it came to getting on base. Prado should be able to help and get on base in front of Montero, Kubel, and Ross. With no Chris Young and Justin Upton, that outfield looks a lot different. I think they will still have their struggles up against their division as a lot of their pickups are guys who like to swing down in the dirt after that curve ball that guys like Cain, Kershaw, Zito, and Grienke like to throw. Going more into the NL West, Chase Headley and the Padres agreed to a deal. One year, $8.6 million. Headley had a great season last year, and I honestly thought he would head to a different team and bring in a solid $20 million, but he has shown his loyalty to the Padres and stuck with them. Guys like that are always the best ball players out there though, as they set a great example for up and coming players. Helton, Chipper, and Headley, so little amount of players that stick with one team their whole career are out there anymore.
