Thumbs down

Some thumbs have been beat up in the NL West, as the Dodgers and Padres are now hoping for the best when it comes to a couple key players ont heir teams. Hanley Ramirez injured his thumb on a dive play in the championship game of the World Baseball Classic. Dodgers recently sent Hanley in for an MRI and are waiting on the results. Hanley coud miss from 2 week to 2 months. Hanley showed that he has got a hot bat again in the WBC with his power and consistency. There has been worry that all the big names the Dodgers have picked up are past their prime, but Hanley looks like he has proven that wrong. The Dodgers are looking forward to a strong season with the addition of Greinke to the rotation, they look to dominate the game from every angel.
Chase Headley also injured his thumb while sliding into second base. He will miss at least the first couple weeks of the season. Headley being the big name on the Padres these days is a big loss to their offensive support to start off the season. Headley hit 31 homeruns and 115 RBI's last year being the only bat in the lineup producing numbers like an elite player. There is no need to worry about surgery but the Padres are going to get things started a bit shorthanded.
Going into previous injuries, Jeter is having further problems with his ankle, as he has been suffering a lot of inflammation since steeping back out on the field. This is a big problem for the already disabled Yankees as their captain is looking more and more like he will have to join the rest of his buddies and start the season on the disabled list.
In trade news, the Diamondbacks send veteran shortstop McDonald to Pittsburgh for a player to be named and cash. McDonald dished in 22 RBI's and 6 homeruns over 70 games last season. The 38 year old will most likely be used as a back up for the Pirates regular shortstop Clint Barmes over the season. With Pennington and Bloomquist in Arizona, McDonald was the out man out when it came to getting any playing time at shortstop. McDonald known more for his glove than bat will provide some experience knowledge for the young Pirate players.
