Boy the story of week 5 had to be the star of Monday night Drew Brees. He set the record for passing yards, putting Manning and Favre behind him to hold the record by himself and came up just one short of 500 total passing touchdowns. Congrats to Brees and the Saints in their big win, destroying the Redskins 43-19. Week 6 has some big games, but I think Sunday Night Football will provide us all with the game we want to see. Patrick Mahomes has impressed us all through the season and now he gets to take on Brady over in New England. Many expect this to be a preview of the AFC Championship. We will see if the youngster can take on Brady and those Patriots after proving many wrong overcoming the Jaguars by plenty, with a lot of help from his defense that is. Week 6 looks be entertaining with game featuring teams fighting for the division lead such as Steelers vs Bengals and others looking to avoid the bottom of the division with Buccaneers vs Falcons. Here is what we see coming this week.
Last week's records:
Tommy 9-6
Lauren 10-5
Marcus 9-6
Joe 11-4
Lindsey 7-8
Eagles vs Giants
Tommy- Both of these teams are not looking to promising so far this year. But now there looks to be bad beef in the Giants locker room with what OBJ is saying about his teammates. That will cause only further struggle for the Giants and the Eagles should come out on top in this one anyway. PHI 23-17
Lauren- The Giants look exactly how I thought they would this season. The Eagles, though look a lot worse than everyone thought this season. They sure don't look like defending champs, Philly should bounce back in this rivalry game. PHI 21-17
Marcus- Last season this NFC East matchup was decided by a slim margin, I expect the same again seeing how the division isn't the best right now in the league. PHI 23-21
Joe- Very tough loss for the Giants last week. Indicative of their season thus far. Also, i don't trust the Eagles, who are not any good this season and have zero wins on the road. To be favored by 3 points over anyone right now...NYG 23-22
Buccaneers vs Falcons
Tommy- The Falcons defense is obviously weakened. This will be Winston's first start, so the question is will he take off from the beginning and get hot right off the bat? I think this will be a close game and it will come down to a last minute turnover to lead to a winning FG or prevent the tying one. ATL 30-27
Lauren- The Fitzmagic is long gone. Winston has a chance to prove his worth in this game, and with a dinged-up secondary, the Falcons are going to have to try extra hard to stop the passing game. I think Matt Ryan should be able to out-pass the Bucs. ATL 24-14
Marcus- Since Fitzmagic is no more, and the Dirty Birds could use a win, here it is. ATL 31-24
Joe- Welcome back to the starting lineup, Jameis. The 1-4 Falcons are favored by 3.5 points this week. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would say that it would be bad PR for the NFL if Jameis Winston, widely despised for his off field actions, came back and was triumphant in his first game back as a starter. Will not happen. ATL 35-30
Steelers vs Bengals
Tommy- This will be a rough one. There are going to be some big hits and most likely an ejection or two. If you remember the punishment these teams dished out at each other last year you know what I am talking about. The Steelers defense has been one of the worst and those Bengals showed us they can comeback. CIN 31-28
Lauren- Big Ben looked like his old self last week in a big win over Atlanta. Cincy looks real good too, but I think the Steelers defense will quiet the Bengals explosive offense. PIT 30-24
Marcus- The Steelers are looking good, Brown is scoring like crazy and I think the Bengals are going to run out of luck. PIT 34-27
Joe- I didn't think the Steelers had a blowout win in them. Very surprising. And mark my words, here comes the "Andy Dalton is no better than a red headed step child" performance we all know he is capable of. The Bengals can put a stranglehold on a division title. Instead, they are going to embarrass themselves at home and get booed off the field. PIT 31-14
Chargers vs Browns
Tommy- Mayfield is looking good, I mean those Browns could be 4-1 if he started from the beginning and they got some certain calls to go their way instead. Rivers is strong with his weapons in Gordon, Allen, and Williams. But I really like what that Browns defense has been showing us this year and have to go with them and their first overall pick QB. CLE 24-21
Lauren- The Browns have two wins!! Too bad the streak will end there. Rivers is to good to lose in Cleveland, but I would not be surprised to see Mayfield put up some decent numbers against the Chargers. LAC 28-20
Marcus- Can the Browns win two games in a row?!?! Well since the Chargers seem to be a conundrum this season and since just played the Raiders, the Browns for the win! CLE 27-21
Joe- Here come the Chargers. Just when you finally believe in the team that has losses only to the Rams and Chiefs, they show up to ruin your parlay with the completely obvious Chargers letdown performance. And if memory serves me correctly, the Chargers once lost to a Browns team that finished the season 1-15. A much worse Browns team then than this one. CLE 20-17
Seahawks vs Raiders
Tommy- Man those Raiders have been a disappointment. My advice to Gruden and Carr is just hand it off to Lynch every play. Cooper, Nelson, and that group of receivers have been irrelevant. Seattle surprised us keeping it close against the Rams last week. But they did have help from their crowd and now they get to hear the black whole. But I trust Wilson much more than Carr to make this pick easy. SEA 33-20
Lauren- With Seattle's defense on the rebuild, their offense has really stepped up when they needed to. Oakland look as bad as ever on both sides of the ball. Even the Seahawks rebuilding defense should be able to stop the Raiders pathetic offense. SEA 27-14
Marcus- These games across the ponds are so hard to pick, and since the Raiders looked terrible last week and Seattle almost beat the Rams, I take the Seahawks. SEA 24-20
Joe- Since the NFC East is really really bad and there needs to be two Wild Card teams among the other three divisions, I actually believe the Seahawks have a good chance of being one of them come playoff time. Now that every team on the league has at least one win, I'll say it: the Raiders are the worst team in the league. SEA 33-24
Bears vs Dolphins
Tommy- Vikings, Packers, and Lions all got talked about when it came to possible division winners. But Chicago holds the lead right now and the way they are playing on both sides of the ball it doesn't look like they are going to give it up. Miami has a challenge on their hands. CHI 20-13
Lauren- Tannehill has not yet faced a defense like this one this season. Khalil Mack will have some fun in Miami. Bears easily. CHI 27-10
Marcus- Da Bears have had an extra week to prepare for this game and if the formers Tar Heel can put together a decent game, the Bears and their defense can get the win. CHI 24-17
Joe- The Bears may just bet he biggest surprise in the league at 3-1. the Dolphins fooled suckers into thinking they were good when they started 3-0. The game screams that the better team is going to lay an egg. A big one. MIA 23-6
Cardinals vs Vikings
Tommy- Cousins can't seem to beat the teams he should, but then takes out those he shouldn't. It has just been his way of play. Though the Vikings have been missing weapons on their run game, their defense sure has made up for it. Though Cousins will probably make some mistakes, they are at home and Rosen will make more. MIN 27-20
Lauren- Here we are again with Kirk Cousins facing a team that he should easily beat. We thought that against Buffalo too. Cardinals got a win and have some confidence back. I say Cousins chokes again. ARI 20-17
Marcus- The former Bruin got his first win last week and now faces a tough Vikings team looking to get their season back on track. I like the Vikings in this game at home. MIN 28-17
Joe- So, the Cardinals might have been the worst team in the league in weeks 1 and 2. Close losses to the Bears and Seahawks and then a road win against the 49ers since. Plus, I'm a Vikings fan. I've seen this kind of let down game before. A couple of weeks ago even. The double digit spread is too high. MIN 30-23
Colts vs Jets
Tommy- The Jets surprised many of us in Week 5, but I doubt they can do that in back-to-back weeks. Luck has a beat up team around him, but they are coming off a bye which means they should be a bit healthier. Luck will exploit the wholes in the Jets defense for a close low scoring win. IND 20-17
Lauren- Why did the Jets win that game against Denver? They had no right looking that good. Indy is coming off a tough loss and have an extremely beat-up team. Give me the Jets at home. NYJ 14-10
Marcus- Another rookie QB who played extremely well last week was the former Trojan. I like Sam Darnold to lead the J E T S Jets to a victory this week against Indy. NYJ 27-14
Joe- Without even thinking about it, tell me who the Colts played last week. I bet you didn't remember because they were so abysmally forgettable against the Patriots. And the jets looked like a Super Bowl team against the Broncos. If only it were that simple. The Jets will remember they're the Jets this week. IND 27-21
Panthers vs Redskins
Tommy- One week the Redskins look good and the next they terrible. They beat the Packers then later get dropped by the Saints. Being at home compared to the road seems to make a big difference. I think it is time for a good week for Washington in a close battle against the Panthers. WSH 24-23
Lauren- Boy Washington looked awful against Brees and the Saints. But honestly, I think any team going against Drew Brees on a night he was going to break the All-Time Passing yards record was going to look stupid. Carolina's kicker saved their game for them last week with a 63-yarder. Washington gets a needed win. WSH 21-20
Marcus- The Panthers have won 5 straight against the Skins, after that abysmal Monday Night Football showing I like the Panthers to make it 6 straight. CAR 28-24
Joe-Nothing makes sense this season. The Redskins are favored after that abomination of a football game on Monday night. And the Panthers are 3-1. But the Panthers have only won at home thus far. I guess that means that the Redskins are going to win this game. WSH 24-21
Bills vs Texans
Tommy- The Bills have surprised us a couple time this year, but I think the pressure he will face will make the difference in this game. Watson looks to be getting better, getting rid of the ball sooner, with each game that passes. Houston is coming off a confidence building win over the Cowboys and I think Watt and Clowney will secure their win. HOU 23-20
Lauren- Josh Allen looks good for Buffalo. Not many quarterbacks that size can move like he does. The Texans defense looked like the brick wall everyone was expecting against the Cowboys. Allen is gonna take some sacks in this one, and Watson's D will help him stay ahead for a win. HOU 24-16
Marcus- The Texans have won 2 straight and I see them making it 3 games in a row against the Bills. HOU 31-17
Joe- And my Bills pulled it off last week against the Titans! That was last week. The Texans have two overtime wins this season. And now they are favored to beat someone by double digits? How the hell does that make sense? If we are going to predict final scores, you have to pick one big blowout I guess. HOU 31-7
Rams vs Broncos
Tommy- The Rams look incredible. Though they did not cover last week, their offense still came through when needed at one of the hardest places to win. The big question is Cooks and Kupp status after concussions. With them they take it easily, without them it will be close, but Gurley will be enough. LAR 28-16
Lauren- Denver looked pitiful against the Jets. LA's offense exploded for points against Seattle. I have a hard time believing that the Rams would lose this one. LAR 23-17
Marcus- Even though this game will be at Mile High Stadium, the Rams offense won't get derailed in the altitude. LAR 28-21
Joe- The worst part of being friends with an idiot Rams fan is hearing idiot overreactions throughout their games. He basically considers last week's game against Seattle a loss. Also, because of all the injuries, he actually stated the Rams are going to finish the season 6-10. And hey, the Broncos sure do suck. I wonder if the Lions called the Broncos after the Jets hammered them and said "Thank you. You made everyone forget about how good WE made them look in week 1" LAR 28-17
Jaguars vs Cowboys
Tommy- Wow Bortles really looked bad last week. With Fournette out still the Jaguars went and picked up free agent Jamal Charles. Dallas will have the stronger run game, but they have a pretty bad record at home. This is a tough one, as turnovers will make the difference, but I will trust Ramsey and the Jags to force more. JAX 20-16
Lauren- If Dallas lost against the second-best defense in the league then they do not stand a chance against number one. However, Dallas' offense outshines Jacksonville's. Being in Jerryworld it's tough for me to say, but I think the Jaguars keep the points low for Dak and Dem Boys. JAX 17-14
Marcus- This feels like it will be hard hitting smash mouth football matchup between the Jags and Boys. I like Elliot to get a lot of touches and some decent yardage in this matchup against the Jaguars. DAL 20-17
Joe- The Jaguars are very unpredictable. Probably because of some guy named Bortles. And I believe in the Cowboys and their play at home as much as I believe in them losing on the road. DAL 24-19
Ravens vs Titans
Tommy- This game should be a grindfest to the end. Both of these teams have made their names through defense so far this year. But the Ravens former defensive coordinator is now on the Titans side. Mariota will come up with the clutch pass or run that will lead to late win for the Titans. TEN 15-13
Lauren- Both of these teams are coming off losses to teams that they had no business losing against. Both need a confidence boost. Both have fairly decent defenses. Baltimore has the better offense. Ravens for the win. BAL 14-10
Marcus- The Titans looked bad last week against the Bills but I like them to bounce back this week against the Ravens. A close one though. TEN 23-21
Joe- Who had the Ravens losing to the Browns last week? This guy. And even though I'm a very passionate Titans hater each and every week, I stand by my prediction that the Ravens will lose 6 road games this season. TEN 14-12
Chiefs vs Patriots
Tommy- This is a game where you want to b taking the over. This will be a high scoring battle between the probable AFC Championship duo, as Mahomes and Brady battle in a game that may decide who gets the host the game this winer. Beating Brady at home is a real tough challenge, but right now it seems Mahomes would be the guy who could do it. KC 38-34
Lauren- Oh what a game this may turn out to be. Mahomes and his dazzling passing game versus Brady and his reliable one. I feel like the two teams are pretty evenly matched, but I've gone against the Pats in Foxborough and paid for it. Not this time, Pats win in a high scoring affair. NE 37-34
Marcus- Mahomes, Mahomes, Mahomes, everyone is on the hype but now here comes the real test. I expect this game to be close but the Pats will get the victory at home. NE 31-27
Joe- The Chiefs are 5-0 and have been pretty damn impressive in every game. The Patriots are 3-2 and don't have a single good win but to really bad losses. Yet they are 3.5 point favorites. They also are not any good on defense and will be facing maybe the best quarterback in the league. So why do I fell like the Patriots are going to show up and be the Patriots of old? Maddening season thus far. NE 35-24
49ers vs Packers
Tommy- Why won't the Packers run the ball more? Aaron Jones ran through the Lions defense and then they wouldn't use him again. As Rodgers said, they have a good half and a bad half. They need to get started on the first drive and continue all game. The 49ers are struggling, it is obvious why but they have potential to put up some points and runaway with this one. I don't think Rodgers can lose two in a row though, it will be closer than many think. GB 21-17
Lauren- Two very beat-up teams in what looks like a boring Monday Night game. Niners have their second-string QB, but at least have some receivers for him to throw to unlike Rodgers. I'm taking Green Bay because they are at home. GB 21-14
Marcus- Injuries sure are an issue, but I like the Packers to get the victory against the Santa Clara Niners. GB 48-10
Joe- Skip watching this terrible game if you have anything else to do on Monday night. At this point, I can't name the starting running back, wide receiver or first name of the starting QB of the 49ers. Seriously. Seeing the Packers suck is such a joy to my life. But even I know that there is no way they can lose this game. GB 30-20
Seasons Standings:
Marcus 43-33
Lauren 41-35
Tommy 40-36
Joe 32-30
