NFL Week 13 Predictions

We saw some big games last week, many possible playoff deciding matchups as teams in the hunt got the edge over others. Some teams stayed hot, such as the Colts and Texans, while others stayed cold like the Packers and Jaguars. The big game of the week in my opinion was the heating up Seahawks visiting the cooling down Panthers. Carolina seemed unbeatable at home, Christian McCaffrey was unstoppable, but the Seahawks still came out on top with some bomb passes from Wilson giving the Panthers their third straight loss and giving Seattle the edge if they were to battle out for a wildcard seat. The young guns put in their word, as Lamar Jackson and Baker Field dominated their games. Mayfield and the Browns got their input about their former coach Hue Jackson as well, while Lamar Jackson has many wondering if Flacco will ever start for Baltimore again. Marcus sill holds the lead going into Week 13, but Lauren is coming off the best score. Lets see how the competition continues, with Dzintars as our guest this week, as we debate over big games such as those between the Vikings and Patriots or Steelers and Chargers.
Week 12 Records
Tommy 9-6
Lauren 12-3
Marcus 10-5
Derrick (Guest) 10-5
Saints (10-1) vs Cowboys (6-5)
Tommy - Dallas has got a lot to play for now, taking the lead in the NFC East should be a big momentum builder. But sill against the Saints team we've been seeing this year, I seriously doubt they have a shot. Brees may feel a little more pressure, but will expose the Cowboys secondary for the win. NO 34-23
Lauren - It seems like the Saints cannot lose. The high-flying offense and dominant defense are crumbling opponents under their might. This week doesn't seem it will be any different, although the Cowboys will be able to handle them better than most think. NO 31-24
Marcus - The Saints are going to keep onto victory this week, as they take care of the cowboys on Thursday night. NO 33-17
Dzintars - There are two QBs I will not, at any point for the rest of the 2018 season bet against. One i Drew Bress. His four touchdowns last week were to Tommylee Lewis, Austin Carr, Dan Arnold, and Keith Kirkwood. Three of those have 21 games of NFL experience COMBINED. Talk about "who Dat?" There's too many weapons for the Saints, and the Cowboys may be wothout Pro Bowl O-Linemen. The Saints feasted on turkey legs last Thursday ans on the the menu this week is a spanking of the Cowboys! NO 38-24
Cardinals (2-9) vs Packers (4-6-1)
Tommy - This game will be a lot closer than everyone thinks. The Packers have no experience left on the field. All their guys are getting hurt, as Rodgers is having a hard time finding targets and their secondary is getting owned. Cardinals are coming off a rough game, but Rosen and their defense will make this a good one. I still am taking Rodgers, but the double digit spread I am seeing is BS. GB 27-23
Lauren - Arizona was embarrassed last week against the Chargers. Their offense will have an easier time this week against the Packers' depleted defensive line. However, Aaron Rodgers does not go down easy. His offense should be able to play well against the Cardinals defense. GB 27-21
Marcus - The Packers are 11-0 straight up in their last 11 games as home favorites, Go Pack Go!! GB 34-23
Dzintars - Every game is now a must-win for the Packers. Lucky for them they will get their momentum started by playing a team fighting for the first overall pick year of next year's draft. Swami says: Packers win, Arizona won't even try. GB 33-14
Ravens (6-5) vs Falcons (4-7)
Tommy - Lamar Jackson has now been a big piece to two wins for the Ravens. He looked great running and throwing the ball last week and will have a good time against the injured Atlanta defense. The Falcons seem to be able to put pressure on the QB then surrender the big pass, or give the QB all the time he needs and limit the big gains. Jackson will be able to find the weakness in that easily. If they show good coverage he will run for his first downs, or if he is rushed he will find Crabtree for the big play. Ryan will put up a fight, but Baltimore will take this. BAL 30-23
Lauren - The Falcons seem to have lost all hope. The defense is decimated and the offense can't seem to make any big plays happen. But it's also a time of desperation for them. Baltimore's offense looks reborn with Jackson calling the plays. I think the Ravens will be able to hold off a Falcons team in dire need of a win. BAL 24-20
Marcus - The Ravens are 8-1 against the spread in their last 9 games against Dirty Birds. I'm taking purple Moider Birds!! BAL 20-17
Dzintars - I love what I've seen from the Ravens in the last two weeks. But with that being said, I'm not sure what to expect this week. Will Flacco be back? Will the news tying Harbaugh to USC be a distraction? Baltimore ranks in the top 3 of all defensive team ranks, including 1st in total yards allowed per game, so I give this game to them. I'd be weary of changes and newsthat comes before Sunday though. BAL 24-21
Broncos (5-6) vs Bengals (5-6)
Tommy - Denver is coming off two impressive wins and it won't stop there. Rivers and Roethlisberger were not enough to stop them, so I really doubt Dalton's backup can. Especially with the health of Green still up in the air. Sanders makes a couple more big catches as Miller picks up the big defensive plays. DEN 28-9
Lauren - Looks like an easy week for Denver. Dalton is out for the season and the back-up Jeff Driskell gets the start with Tom Savage to back him up. Denver should make the Bengals look foolish. DEN 28-14
Marcus - Let's see, the Broncos beat the Steelers last week and the Bungals lost to the Browns. Hmmmm let me think....BRONCOS!! DEN 33-10
Dzintars - Dalton has been ruled out for the season. Driskel's line and QB rating after taking over for Dalton on Sunday was atrocious. 17/29, 155 yards, 84.7 QBR. Expect more of the same. DENVER WILL WIN! DEN 31-17
Rams (10-1) vs Lions (4-7)
Tommy - People will be bringing up the MVP talk for Gurley again after this game. Coming off the bye, Gurley will blast his way through that poor Lions run defense. Aaron Donald will put the pressure on Stafford they need to keep him from making any big plays, as the Rams dominance will continue. LAR 37-24
Lauren - Detroit put up a better fight against the Bears than I thought they would. But then, Trubisky was out. Jared Goff and Todd Gurley will both be playing and that doesn't bode well for the Lions. Detroit's defense has a lot to deal with. Aaron Donald should have fun with Stafford. LAR 31-20
Marcus - Dare I say trap game!? Coming off a bye week and huge win against AFC leading Chiefs, it may take the Rams a quarter to get those juices flowing but they win against the Lions. LAR 28-17
Dzintars - Rams are the real deal. They lost Kupp...and then TE Gerald Everett steps up three TDs on five receptions in their last two games. Like the Saints, the Rams have to many weapons. GG Lions. LAR 41-20
Bills (4-7) vs Dolphins (5-6)
Tommy - Miami will need to have a strong run game in order to come out on top in this one. Tannehill is obviously still in pain, while Allen may deliver bombs or turnovers. I am trusting the Bills defense to come through with the difference in a close game. BUF 20-17
Lauren - Josh Allen is looking good for the Bills offense. He can run when he needs to and his arm is powerful, but inaccurate. Tannehill can win for his team, but he needs his defense to help out. I think Buffalo wins here. BUF 17-14
Marcus - This one is a toss up to me, but I like the way the Bills played last week against the Jags and they should have the momentum going into this weekend. BUF 24-20
Dzintars - Upset alert! You don't need to know who is QB for the Bills because the run game will win it for them. They rank 17th in the league in rush yards and Miami has the third worst rush defense in the league. Also, Buffalo is the top team right now in limiting the passing game of their opponents. Miami will be forced to rely on an aging Frank Gore and rollercoaster ride known as Kenyan Drake. I had money on Buffalo before I even saw some betting sites giving them five points! BUF 27-22
Bears (8-3) vs Giants (3-8)
Tommy - That Bears defense should have some fun against the Giants offensive line on Sunday. The Giants have looked better recently, but have not met a defense like this one for a bit. Manning will end up on the ground multiple times again, as Mack forces more turnovers. CHI 27-17
Lauren - I keep wanting to give opponents of the Giants huge scores to win by, but the Giants keep showing me that they will roll over and die for no one. So while I think the Bears will win this one, I think the Giants will keep it close. CHI 26-23
Marcus - Da Bears! Enough said, their defense is to good and they can keep Saquon on check. CHI 23-21
Dzintars - The way to stop the New York Giants: Stop the Barkley run, and put pressure on Manning so it's harder to get the deep ball to OBJ. Translation: Everything the Bears defense can and will do. Trubisky is rolling and clearly comfortable too. Giants can just start planning for the 2019 draft this week. CHI 32-10
Panthers (6-5) vs Buccaneers (4-7)
Tommy - McCaffrey must be saying "what do I have to do here?" The man put up 125 rushing yards, 112 receiving yards and 2 TD's, as the Panthers lost their third straight. Now they get to take on a rather poor defense in Tampa Bay. The Bucs looked good with Winston taking the snaps, but they will face a much different team now than the 49ers they beat last week. Newton will turn to his man McCaffrey a lot again for the big win. CAR 33-23
Lauren - Tampa Bay beat the Niners last week and looked good doing it, but hey, it was against the Niners. Carolina looks really good every week, but cannot seem to finish games. McCaffrey can't do it all himself, though he is trying. I think the Panthers get a much-needed win. CAR 28-21
Marcus - The Bucs played well against Santa Clara last week and the Panthers are 1-4 against the spread and straight up on the road this season. I like the Bucs to get the W this weekend. TB 26-23
Dzintars - They just played each other on November 4th. End result: Carolina won 42-28. I don't care who the Bucs have at QB, they have very similar problems. Carolina has a defense and running game, both of which Tampa Bay lacks. This will be a near repeat of their last meeting. CAR 41-27
Colts (6-5) vs Jaguars (3-8)
Tommy - After the brawl the Jags see the big piece to their offense suspended. Without Fournette out he Jags offense does not seem to work at all. Borltes is benched and Kessler is in action. Luck with put up amazing numbers compared to him even against Ramsey. IND 29-17
Lauren -Bortles out, Kessler in. This should be interesting. I'm not convinced it will make much of a difference since the issue seems to be poor decision-making and Kessler is too new for me to believe that he will be any better. Luck beats the Jags. IND 27-16
Marcus - Andrew Luck is playing really well this season and could get the comeback player of the year award!! I like Indy to get a big win against the Fighting Jags! IND 31-14
Dzintars - The Colts are 5-0 in their last five games. The Jags are 0-5 in that span, while the Colts definitely had the easier schedule. They also played each other during that span with Indy taking it 29-26 at home. I would say on paper it seems close, but I see this going the same way with Indy taking it easily. IND 30-21
Browns (4-6) vs Texans (8-3)
Tommy - The Browns are looking good, next year may their time. But right now they got a little drama distracting them with the Jackson bashing and are about to take on an amazing defense. Watson out duels Mayfield in a close battle decided by penalty flags and turnovers. HOU 23-21
Lauren - There is finally a little hope in Cleveland. Mayfield is the future and the future is bright. My husband has a coworker that is convinced the Browns will win out the season, but there is no getting by the red-hot Texans and their defense led by Watt. HOU 24-17
Marcus - My boys from Stanford that currently play for the Texans had huge games on defense the past weekend. I like PK, B, Scar & J. Reid to have big games and for the Texans to win big against the Brownies. HOU 21-20
Dzintars - Cleveland is looking better. I truely hope they remain a competitive team for years to come. With that being said, this week they won't be competitive enough to beat the Texans. Houston has a tough, tough defense. Cleveland is still learning how to build one. Texans take this one by 10 points minimum. HOU 28-17
Jets (3-8) vs Titans (5-6)
Tommy - The difference in this one will be the QBs. Mariota was delivering bombs for big plays, while it wasn't enough to beat the Texans, it will be enough to outdo the Jets. They just can't come up with the big plays and will be facing a strong defense. Close game for a bit, but the Titans runaway with it late. TEN 23-13
Lauren - The game is kind of weird. The Titans struggled last week against the Texans and the Jets lost to Brady and the Pats. Both have a chance to win this one, but I think the Titans defense is better than the Jets' so I'll give them the win. TEN 21-16
Marcus - The Titans are fighting for a playoff spot and the Jets are fighting for...pride? Marcus Mariota leads the Titans to victory against the sputtering Jets. TEN 28-14
Dzintars - I'll put it this way: my strategy for defense in one of my fantasy league this year has been "pick the team playing against the Jets." Tennessee currently is ranked the 20th best defense in the league this season with 334 yards allowed per game. When it comes to two teams in the bottom four in yards per game on offense, they are ranked 29th and 30th, I have to give it to the team with the better defense. A low-scoring win for the Titans, but a win nonetheless. TEN 14-9
Chiefs (9-2) vs Raiders (2-9)
Tommy - Mahomes and the Chiefs are coming off the bye, while the Raiders lost by double digits AGAIN. The Raiders defense will not be able to get in Mahomes way and prevent him from dominating in the first few quarters. I imagine KC won't use him in the 4th. KC 42-21
Lauren - Mahomes goes to the Black Hole. The Raiders did not look good against rookie QB Lamar Jackson, how are they going to look against Patrick Mahomes. MVP candidate? Look for the Chiefs to score big and win. KC 34-12
Marcus - Okay next game, Chiefs win big against the Raiders. KC 41-10
Dzintars - Someone alert Oakland PD: there's about to be a slaughter at the Coliseum. Does any reasonable person out there think the Raiders could possibly muster a defense in less than one week that could stop KC's offense? Yeah didn't think so. I'm not even touching the drama around Gruden and Carr along with lack of offensive weapons. Even with Vegas putting Chiefs at -15, I would still bet KC. KC 48-23
Vikings (6-4-1) vs Patriots (8-3)
Tommy - This game will be decided by the team that can cover the key receiver better. Can the Vikings shut down Gronkowski, or the Pats stop Thielen? Which ever team shows better secondary wins this. I saw Rhodes go down against GB, that is a big loss, as it appeared to be a hamstring issue. We know Brady can find the guy he needs to, while Cousins has good games and bad games. Though I want them to take a loss and fall out a of first round bye spot, I have to take the Pats on a 4th quarter drive. NE 37-34
Lauren - The Vikings offense is looking really good. Kirk Cousins has a thing about beating team that he shouldn't and the Patriots fit that category. But Brady will not go down without a fight. Pats will win with Sony Michel running all over the Vikings. NE 31-27
Marcus - The Pats play really well at home and will win this Sunday against the Vikes. NE 33-23
Dzintars - You might have guessed that I like looking at team rankings for my picks. Both have great talent on offense: New England averages 398.3 yards per game and id ranked 9th, while is close at 12th with 384.3. Minnesota clearly has the better defense ranked 3rd in yards allowed per game while the Pats are 22nd. I said defense brings the win when it comes to TEN, but with Brady all logic is put aside and I can't go against him in this one. NE 31-28
49ers (2-9) vs Seahawks (6-5)
Tommy - The Seahawks have been impressive, taking out Carolina and Green Bay, while giving the Rams some of their best duels of the season. This one should not be very tough for the them, as the 49ers are still losing guys to injury or releasing them left and right. Wilson has been a monster and should keep the hunt for the playoffs in tact at home against SF. SEA 31-17
Lauren - Seattle got a big win against the Panthers last week and could go on a big win streak. SF looked awful against the Bucs. Nick Mullens will need his offensive line to step up against the Seahawks this week, but I don't think they will be much help even if they do. SEA 27-13
Marcus - Not worth talking about, Seattle all the way!! SEA 44-3
Dzintars - 49ers have a great backup QB in Mullens, an outstanding TE in Kittle, and a fun RB in Breida. That's about it unfortunately. Think an incomplete team has a chance to beat a Seahawks team in playoff hunt at Century Link Field?? Nope! SEA 27-12
Chargers (8-3) vs Steelers (7-3-1)
Tommy - Which QB will have the better performance? Will Rivers complete almost every pass again, while Roethlisberger throws a bunch of passes into the dirt like he did against JAX? Or will Rivers luck run out, while Big Ben goes 24/25 to McDonald and Brown? Gordon is a big missing piece, but this will still be really close. I have to take the home team. PIT 31-28
Lauren - Time for an AFC showdown. This should be a great game. The Chargers Gordon is out for an extended period, but his back-up Ekeler is good too. Big Ben will have to run away from Bosa all night, but I think the Steelers will come out victorious. PIT 34-28
Marcus - A possible Wild Card game matchup, the Chargers have to yet beat a really good team this season and I don't think they will get the win this week against the Steelers. Steel Curtain will win a close one. PIT 33-31
Dzintars - Remember how I said I have two QBs I wouldn't bet against the rest of the season? Old man Rivers is the other one. Even if Gordon is out, they have backup that is more than just serviceable. Only one game behind the Chiefs in the AFC West, I don't see this game giving and the being happy with the top Wildcard spot. Rivers wants it. LAC 34-31
Redskins (6-5) vs Eagles (5-6)
Tommy - Actually a tough one to call, I mean the Redskins are missing a big piece in Smith, but the Eagles just have not looked like a consistent team at all this year. They came back over the 3-8 Giants last week, but were irrelevant in that first half. Philly will need to be there all game and Wentz will need to use all his resources to beat the Redskins defense. Philly takes a close one at home on primetime. PHI 28-24
Lauren - Colt McCoy will have his work cut out for him against the Philly D. The Eagles though do not look like the Super Bowl team from last year and the Redskins defense could show the Eagles some of their weaknesses. I still think Philly gets the win. PHI 24-17
Marcus - A huge game in the NFC East Division, with 3 teams vying to take a lead in the division. But I like Philly to step up to the plate and get a huge win against the Skins. PHI 23-13
Dzintars - Two very similar teams, but then I remember that Alex Smith is out. Colt McCoy last week: 268 passing yards, two TDs, three interceptions for a 68.7 QBR. Not an impressive arm, and I have zero faith in him tog et the ball into his receivers' hands. Eagles will move the ball far move and win. PHI 24-17
Season Records
Marcus 111-63
Lauren 110-64
Tommy 109-65
Guest 91-56
